Burna Boy Pays Homage To Fela In “Ye” Video

Afro-fusion singer, Burna Boy, has paid homage to the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, in a new video titled “Ye”.

The singer said the song narrates some socio-cultural issues Nigerians deal with in a laid back and easy-going manner.

Adding to the political undertone of the song and video, it srelease coincides with the anniversary week of Fela’s death.

The dancers and the outfits worn by the models in the video are somewhat reminiscent of Fela’s dancers. There are also more glaring tributes to the legend in the video.

He said, “With the video, we have bright lights and confined symmetry, but we also have bright metallic satin and tulle outfits, and fur coats, adding to the theme of the song.”

Burna is completely in his element in the video, and so is Timaya, who makes a cameo appearance.

Directed by Clarence Peters, the ‘Ye’ video is a visual translation of the song of the same title.

Burna Boy is currently signed to his record label Spaceship Entertainment. He rose to prominence in 2012 following the release of ‘Like To Party’, the first single off his debut album ‘L.I.F.E’ (Living an Impact for Eternity).

The album had a 19-song track list including his mega hits ‘Yawa Dey’, ‘Don Gorgon’ ’Check and Balance’ and ‘Run my Race’.
