The convener of YesWeFit Revolutionary Movement, Dr Thomas-Wilson Ikubese, on Friday, presented the group’s manifesto to the consensus candidate of the Presidential Aspirants Coming Together, Mr. Fela Durotoye.
Durotoye emerged as the consensus candidate of PACT recently following an in-house election supervised by a former Minister of Education and convener of the Red Card Movement, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili.
Ikubese, according to a statement on Saturday, explained that the election was in two stages.
He lamented that following the emergence of Durotoye, some aspirants in PACT, who had consented to the process by duly appending their signatures to the memorandum of understanding, reneged on their pledges.
According to him, the PACT MoU prescribes that all aspirants shall terminate their presidential aspirations and support anyone among them who emerges as the consensus candidate.
He noted that some of those who took part in the election had started pursuing their presidential aspirations.
Ikubese, however, said he and other members of PACT, who respected the terms of the MoU, had dropped their presidential aspiration and would support the consensus candidate, Durotoye, for the 2019 presidential election.
He said, “I have only one ambition, that is, to see Nigeria work. I am not desperate to occupy office, but to contribute my quota to making Nigeria functional, by collaborating with like minds where necessary.”
He stated that Clause 13 of the PACT MoU forbids Prof Kingsley Moghalu and others from pursuing their presidential aspirations after the emergence of the consensus candidate.
