VIDEO: Spanish Police Arrest Nigerians Involve In Slave Trade In Barcelona

Some members of a slave trade gang, known as ‘The Airlords’, consisting of Nigerians in Spain, have been arrested after an early morning raid at their apartment in Barcelona, Spain.

The gang which specialises in trafficking women from Nigeria through Britain and into Spain, were busted by the Spanish police after an investigation into their activities was launched over a year ago.

The raid involved about 250 Police officers, with more than twenty buildings ransacked simultaneously by the Spanish authorities.

During the raid, key members of the gang were arrested, while more than 80 women were freed by the Police, with some of the women seen with young children.

According to the Police, the trafficking gang, which have representatives in the Middle East, Africa, United States and some European countries, charges their victims £28,000 to relocate to Spain, and force most of them into prostitution to repay their debts.

For those who aren’t willing to comply to the Airlords’ demand, the women are kept in line with the use of threat on their family in Nigeria and physical abuse from ‘Madams’ who act as enforcers in Spain.

In the video monitored by Straightfromnaija’s correspondent, one of the victims rescued with her 3-year-old daughter, disclosed to BBC, that she has scars on her body due to the brutality from her ‘‘Madam’, while she promised to kill her daughter.

The Head of anti-trafficking in Spain told BBC that a key figure is base in London, bringing women into the UK on fake Nigerian Passports – it was learnt that the gang is looking into Britain as its gateway into Europe.

The police hope the women will be able to escape the streets of Barcelona, now that the Nigerian traffickers have been arrested, but fear the gang will continue their slave trade else where.
