Heavy rainstorm has destroyed houses in the Nigerian Air Force Base, Jos, rendering soldiers and their families homeless.
The heavy downpour of rainstorm which uprooted the roofings and damaged the ceilings of houses in the barrack occurred on Wednesday.
A visit to scene of the disaster showed that the victims were still struggling to ascertain the extent of demage caused by the rainstorm to their property as some of the victims were still making efforts to sort-out their personal belongings.
A soldier who spoke on the condition of anonymity attributed the disaster to the weak state of the buildings to withstand strong rainstorms.
“Since the building were renovated in 2001/2002, nothing has been done, all the roofs are not strong again, the rooms leak whenever it rains. In short, the entire blocks of houses in the barrack need renovation, soldiers are just managing this old structures.”
The anonymous personnel of the Nigerian Air Force also confirmed that personal belongings of soldiers and their families were lost to the rainstorm. Calling on the leadership of the Nigerian Air Force to urgently come to their rescue.
